System Restore - whew!

Just installed Sonic Record now in Compatibility mode, upon reboot I got BSOD. Went into safe mode and couldn't uninstall, some error about msi not being available in safe mode, then suggested System Restore.
It worked...whew!
Vista looks great, runs smooth, glass would be nice if I could find drivers for my vid card. can't wait for RC1 or 2

You can use Windows Installer in Safe Mode, same thing in XP. ---------- Mark Dietz PROnetworks <http://www.pro-networks.org> http://imnuts.gotdns.org/blog/

It's true, Mark, they don't load the MSI in safe mode although paradoxically you can still type msiexec into the run box in Safe mode and get the MSI version. I have though, downloaded XP SP2 and then installed it while in safe mode when I couldn't get it in once on a box, and I've done if a few times so it doesn't have to have the MSI.
There is a workaround though for situations where you feel you need to be in Safe Mode and get the MSI going:
9208 » How can I start Windows Installer in Safe Mode on a Windows Server 2003? 30-Mar-05 http://www.jsifaq.com/SUBS/tip9200/rh9208.htm
To start Windows Installer in Safe Mode: 1. Restart your computer and press F8 before the Boot Menu or splash screen.
2. Open a CMD.EXE window.
3. Type the following commands and press Enter:
REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\MSIServer" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service" net start msiserver
NOTE: You can use this technique to uninstall an application in Safe Mode.
